Michael Fishbach has spent the past decade studying whales and dolphins in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, as well as in the Caribbean Sea. 2003 will be Michael's 8th consecutive Sea of Cortez field season. This winter's guests will join the hundreds of awed guests that have gazed at the massive whales and throngs of interactive dolphins that he studies from his research boat.
Michael is a marine naturalist and educator, also a research assistant contributing to a number of long term whale and dolphin studies. He currently utilizes his field data to assist him in his teaching responsibilities, as well as leading field seminars for the Durham Academy in North Carolina.

For the past 10 years Michael has been intimately involved in marine mammal fieldwork studying blue, fin back, humpback and beluga whales as part of the Group For Research and Education of Marine Mammals of Tadoussac, Quebec and the Mingan Islands Cetacean Study of Longue Pointe de Mingan, Quebec. Michael has logged over 2000 hours as the captain/pilot of the various research vessels on which he has worked.

Michael has a deep interest in environmental protection and in 1993 played a pivotal role in the creation of a sanctuary in the southern oceans where the killing of whales was prohibited. He continues this kind of work today. As a keen naturalist and photographer Michael has a deep interest in the other sea life, pelagic bird life and the remarkable desert flora and fauna he encounters in Baja California, and has shared this while hosting over 300 visitors to Baja in the past 7 years.
