Fabulous by Carol J

Just this past January I got my second Baja dive adventure under my weight
belt with Phill. And it was fabulous!!!!!! I gained new experience by diving my
first two wrecks- that could be accessed by boat straight from La Paz!

Carol feeling Fabulous

I was, to say the least, a bit nervous on my first dive as I had to work out
the kinks since it had been some time that I had done any diving.

(Click here to see the movie 'Carol Jumps In!')

"Fabio", our dive master, was very patient and escorted me around the entire length of the first wreck pointing out different corals (some viewed through a magnifying glass),
colorful fish, and more star fish than I had ever seen. We actually did our
second dive of the day there as well, and having shed all my uneasiness I
could take in so much more.

The size of the ship, how rusty it was, the size of remnant pieces of chain, and to imagine someone walking across the deck where we were swimming. It was like participating in an underwater film documentary!!! Amazing!! The beauty of the sunset, as we cruised back to town, allowed me to really reflect on the excellent day that I had enjoyed and how my original nervousness about diving had all but disappeared.

Carol's Sunset Reflections

On the second day of diving we went a bit further out near a large island where a huge sunken wreck was available for us to penetrate. What a beautiful boat trip to reach our destination. The warm sun, calm waters, birds flying about, the view of land from the water, and one lone dolphin frolicking about. (Click here to see the movie 'Next Wreck') Before entering the water "Fabio" gave us a few pointers. (Click here to see the movie 'A Few Pointers') Then he gave a brief description of the wreck and what we might look for, also telling us that it was a three-story freighter that we could enter without danger. Phill prepared my equipment (Click here to see the movie 'Rigging Carol's gear') -and off we went.

The water was a bit cloudy and green that day which made the wreck seem all the
more mysterious. After circling the entire ship, we then entered through the rear going right over what was left of the engines. It was fascinating swimming from room to room through arched doorways and down passageways. We passed by a few very dark rooms that gave off the most exciting eerie
vibes creating a lure for future exploration.

After the my wreck penetration, I decided to take a rest from all the activity and enjoyed some solitude on the boat while Phill, Fabio and his sidekick dove.

As I have found all trips with Phill to be, this was a most exhilarating adventure. I am currently joining Phill on an early spring Baja adventure! We have been riding mules into deep canyons to see the petroglyphs  (Click here to see the movie 'Carol is Coaxing Her Mule') and now we are about to head out on the water to the Rancho Secret Spot Baja and do some more wonderful diving in the Sea of Cortez!
