Again and Again and Again...by Janet M

'You can take the girl away from the ocean, but you can’t take the ocean away from the girl!'

Janet M...Feb 2004

It’s a piece of her soul.  It’s an unwavering intensity.  It cannot be matched by mountains or snow or material desires.  It’s much deeper.  A place satisfied only by the balmy breeze, the smiling sunshine and the ever changing tides.  Waters that rush from tranquil blue to roaring green and back again, only to be greeted by the evening moon.  The ocean boasts a consistency, yet nothing is predictable.  Everything can change with the direction of the wind.

Having been born and raised on the east coast of Florida, she lived her life as a beachcomber.  The ocean provided her with a stillness, a calm unmatched by another.  She rode it’s waves on a board, built enormous sandcastles, frolicked by the shoreline and spent many a night gazing toward the heavens in awe as she sang and named the stars to her liking.

The animals down below became her friends and offered her a silence that permeated each of her cells.  She held the utmost respect for each living creature as she explored their habitat without fear, noticing each and every color, each and every minute detail.  This became a spiritual experience she longed for during her land bound days.  She traveled to other parts to explore their territory, each providing her with an experience that will remain with her for a lifetime.

Her first trip to Baja was in February 2003, it was a spur of the moment decision.   One she knew she must make, one she knew would be life changing, a decision based solely on intuition.  For ten days she encountered blue whales and numerous other mammals and fish.  This was of great comfort to her, she had a sense they were somehow her distant family.

Knowing that life is an adventure to be taken advantage of only by her, she decided to check out a place on the planet that was once covered by the ocean she so loves.  The disappearance of the ocean left this place cold and icy, rigid and unmoving.  With the fall of each snowflake, she felt another small hole in her heart.

Remembering that life is what we make of it and that our attitude is paramount, she decided to trust life’s process and board a plane for Baja.  Her first reservation was for four days, then quickly changed to nine days, then changed again to thirteen days, her friends are all convinced she is staying a month.  The Mexican customs officer stamped her passport for twenty days.  How many more hints does she need?  She stayed a few days shy of a month!

Janet and Phill

Stepping outside and feeling the warm sun kiss her, she had found Nirvana once again.  Phill was there to greet her, Phill ... whom she had previously known only via e-mail and telephone.  She is not afraid. (Click here to see the movie 'Not Afraid')  She understands her needs and wants and is filled with peerless gratitude to her host.

She still isn’t sure why, she only knows that Baja holds a special place for her and that she will return ... again and again and again.
